Palm oil fractionation steps

Palm oil is used in a variety of ways and is always in demand in areas such as cosmetics, food production, cleaning agents as well as an edible oil. The oil that is extracted from palm fruits is not edible at first and needs to go through a number of processes in order to be refined. The refining ensures that if there are any byproducts remaining in the oil, they are eliminated thus leaving it pure. The extraction of palm oil is not as simple as what is witnessed when extracting oil from seeds and other materials that bear oil.RBD palm oil is the short for refined bleached deodorized palm oil. Generally, palm oil refinery plant adopt physical refining method, containing three steps refining, bleaching and deodorization,RBD palm oil is the products of palm oil refinery plant, can be sold on the market, and qualify the standard.
RBD palm oil is semi-solid at 20°C. In palm oil fractionation plant, the liquid part can be physically separated from the solid part of palm oil. So RBD palm olein is obtained from palm oil fractionation plant.
After fractionation, the liquid part is called “palm olein”, which is commonly bottled and sold as cooking oils. The solid part is called “palm stearin” and it is commonly used to formulate trans-free fats such as margarine, shortening and vegetable ghee. 
Sometimes the RBD palm olein is further fractionated to a more liquid fraction called “super palm olein”. This oil fraction could withstand colder temperature than palm olein before they cloud or solidify.
